So, the circumstances and socioeconomic and cultural contexts won't necessarily be comparable or immediately encourage a connection. Even more blatant is the setup of each book respectively. --Slake's Limbo, P. 56 I first heard about and became interested in this book in the pages of Karen Hesse's "Phoenix Rising". I sort of took her positive mentions of Slake's Limbo as a kind of endorsement, and in my book anything that is recommended by Karen Hesse is certainly worth giving the read/5.

Obvious pairing with this book include Neal Schusterman's, "Downsiders". Of course, "Downsiders" is an out-and-out fantasy about living underground.

"Slake's Limbo", by contrast, reeks of reality. A far better pairing, actually, would be to read this book and then take a gander at Mark Singer's extraordinary documentary, "Dark Days".Cited by: 8.
